13th of the Month Event Series

Art has always been a gateway to us understanding and connecting to the world around us. Art allows us to express our emotions, expand our knowledge, and add meaning to our lives. It shares our greatest joys and our deepest sorrows. Yet, it is necessary to help us excavate the truth.

But where do Black art and artists fit into this experience? For centuries, Black artists have used their art to tell the story of our experiences on this earth. Whether it's a poem or a photograph, whether it's in a museum or on buildings or on the street, Black art is passionate, diverse, and powerful. It challenges us to ask difficult questions and to take serious action in order for us to create the world we want to be a part of.

This month, we want to examine how Black artists in Baltimore are important to telling the story of US. What are their experiences in a predominantly Black city that has a history of great art but does not always uplift Black art? How does the social and political climate impact their ability to share their work? And how do we support them so they can continue to share their work?

Join BRJA as we discuss the importance and growth of Black Baltimore Artists!
