Black History Month has been controversial since its inception. Today, we see Black History Month co-opted for capitalist gains. We see the same sanitized heroes uplifted in history lessons. We see the same small and large institutions that are silent 11 months of the year take symbolic stances for Black justice in February. Should Black History Month be canceled, repurposed, re-imagined or stay the same?
